Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band that formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978. The band was one of the first American hardcore bands to make a significant impact in the United Kingdom. Dead Kennedys' lyrics were usually political in nature, satirizing establishment political figures (both liberal and conservative) and authority in general, as well as popular culture and even the punk movement itself. During their initial incarnation between 1978 and 1987, they attracted considerable controversy for their provocative lyrics and artwork. Several stores refused to stock their recordings, provoking debate about censorship in rock music; in the mid 80s, vocalist and primary lyricist Jello Biafra became an active campaigner against the Parents Music Resource Center. This culminated in an obscenity trial between 1985 and 1986, which resulted in a hung jury. The group released a total of four studio albums and one EP before disbanding in 1987. Following the band's dissolution, Jello Biafra continued to collaborate and record with other artists including canadians D.O.A., NoMeansNo and his own bands Lard and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, as well as releasing several spoken word performances.

Beloved is the third full-length studio album by Australian metalcore band I Killed the Prom Queen. It was released in Australia on 14 February 2014 and in US on 18 February 2014. The album was streamed on Alternative Press's website on 5 February 2014. This is the first album from the band since its reformation along with three new members, Jamie Hope (vocals), Shane O'Brien (drums) and Benjamin Coyte (bass). At Alternative Press, Dan Slessor rated the album four stars out of five stars, stating that "the finished product more than justifies the wait." Andrew Kapper of About.com concluded that "Beloved is without doubt a strong comeback for the band, but it does have a couple of weak points in the armor, both of which fall into the same category. The lack of big anthems will probably make the album uneventful for casual fans, while the heavier parts rely on the same format and almost become indistinguishable from one another." However, Rock Sound were very positive about the album, writing that "Beloved is both a reincarnation of old and a lesson in modern metalcore that makes IKTPQ the oldest newcomers to stake their claim for 2014." Kill Your Stereo described the album as "a bold declaration of forward momentum while doing classic I Killed the Prom Queen the way only they know how.

CONFLICT started in 1980 led by vocalist Colin Jerwood, who would remain one of the group's few constants throughout its fluid existence. Much more permanent was the group's political agenda, which was already firmly ensconced by the release of their 1983 debut "It's time to see who's who"; songs took on topics like Vietnam, nuclear arms, and vegetarianism. The animal liberation movement, which would remain one of Conflict's central concerns throughout their career, returned to the fore on the next year's Increase the Pressure, with its cover art's focus on the Save the Seals fight. The next albums until 1993 sounded more or less similar but identical, simple and direct fast punk or hardcore punk with political lyrics. But in 1993 CONFLICT turned 180 degrees in its musical orientation and recorded this album entitled "Conclusion" which is some kind of progressive punk (?) or the result to mix prog rock, reggae, post-punk and small experimental touches. Strange fact, this is most unknown and forgotten CONFLICT album and paradoxy probably the best but the best. High quality sound, musicians with high technical level, keyboards, violins, guitars and more instrument to get this fourty five minutes album. A hidden gemm which has been re-issued several times, the last one in 2017.

Tracks:  6
Time:  33 m
Genre:  rock
Style:           Prog Punk

A succesfull attempt at an epic-sounding album, which came out around the same time as The Final Conflict, "against all odds" is very progressive, symphonic and close to heavy metal, and not at all moving and fast like their earlier records. This A-side, which is made up of just one song, the title cut, is almost a complete musiccal experiment. It's repetitive and goes to field recordings to ambient to experimental sounds. The B-side is better and easier, so closer post-punk or just punk. A worthy tune for example is "Slaughter of Innocence," which is their zillionth or so song about animal rights, but a good one, "A message to who," a weird number which seems to be stating that love and friendship are essential to fighting the State and the closing "a state of mind," CONFLICT's first electronic dance number, which isn't half bad, but sounds very '80s. The best thing about this album is the gatefold album cover on the vinyl copy, which is covered with entertaining articles about CONFLICT from the mainstream press, some of them from tabloid papers, attacking the band. Good and problably underrated album.

The sporadic collaborations of ex-Dead Kennedys yowler Jello Biafra and the members of Ministry have always proved somewhat mysterious. Sure, both are kings of their respective genres and evidently work well together in the studio, but think about this. What do they do for lunch? A contradictory vision of Biafra unwrapping his organically grown and correctly harvested sprout sandwich while Al Jourgensen ties off and raises a vein in the bathroom often troubles my sight. Nonetheless, arriving seven years after the awesome Last Temptation of Reid, Lard's third disc delivers exactly what you've come to expect from this oxymoronic pairing. Machine-gun guitars and hyper-trebled drums underpinning Biafra's high, nagging vocals. Songs lambasting the usual gang of suspects: greedy generals, San Francisco cops, the Christian Coalition, advocates of the death penalty, rednecks, MTV. New twists? There aren't many, but "Live Free Or Die," introduces eerie vocal treatments and dexterous use of a Skilsaw, and the country-style "Sidewinder" swings like hell's own line-dance. He thing is this: You already know whether you like Lard, and Chewing isn't going to sway that opinion one way or the other. To us Lardheads, this one sounds like Jourgensen and Biafra put aside their dietary differences and indulged themselves in a healthy seven-year bitch. Delicious!" - Magnet

No one seemed to give a shit when I posted "Pure chewing satisfaction" a while back, but I'm gonna keep at it. Lard is Ministry as fronted by the ever sarcastic and satirical Jello Biafra -- a combination that works way better than you might think - and both of their LP´s are classics of punk, politically inclined industrial metal. At times, "The Last Temptation" gets a little too wacky for its one good, but the metal bits are killer. Lyrically Jello Biafra continues his particular way of sing and to write harsh denounces and critics mixed with jokes, parody or irony, as in his old legend band: Dead Kennedys.

Seminal post-punk band who have gone through numerous internal conflicts and line-up changes, as well as a variety of different styles and sounds. Formed in Notting Hill in 1979 by Jaz Coleman, Geordie Walker, Youth and Paul Ferguson, their dark experimental style provided one of the main steps on from punk rock. Massively influential on a range of different styles of music, they pioneered the industrial rock style with 90's Extremities, Dirt And Various Repressed Emotions. The band have inspired many industrial bands including Nine Inch Nails, Prong and Ministry. They have been cited by Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails 's leader, who mentioned his interest for their early material, saying that he studied their music. Al Jourgensen of Ministry has presented himself as a "big fan" of the group. Godflesh's Justin Broadrick was particularly influenced by their early releases containing dub versions. The band has also been cited by alternative music acts such as My Bloody Valentine and LCD Soundsystem. Shoegazing guitarist and composer Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine mentioned the band and praised more specifically Geordie's touch that he described as "this effortless playing producing a monstruous sound". In 2002, James Murphy of electro-punk band LCD Soundsystem sampled the music of "Change" on his debut single "Losing My Edge".

Hot on the heels of their successful 1994 Pandemonium album and tour, Killing Joke's members converged on the UK from their new-found homes in three continents, to hide away in Cornwall and Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, where the album was produced.[citation needed] Coleman had spent some time decompressing at the end of Pandemonium in Sedona, Arizona, where he had been inspired by the new interest in the Native American culture, striking a chord with his previous involvement in Māori culture in New Zealand, where he had been settled for a short while. A more optimistic and New Age-tinged album lyrically, while keeping some of the weight and import of Pandemonium, the album marked the beginning of a more settled period for singer Jaz Coleman, who had by now also made considerable progress with his orchestral career.[citation needed] Production was overseen by Martin "Youth" Glover, with live session musician Geoff Dugmore on drums. Synthesised textures from keyboardist Nick Holywell-Walker added to the concoction. The album sessions culminated in a full moon drumming fire ceremony on a small island on the river Thames at Henley, with Youth reportedly braving the murky waters for a naked swim. Democracy was mixed in Sarm West in London's Portobello Road towards the end of 1995, with the exception of the track "Savage Freedom" which was mixed at Butterfly Studios, Brixton, by celebrated British engineer-producer Ott.[citation needed] However, guitarist Geordie Walker has expressed disappointment with the resulting Democracy album.

KILLING JOKE is the twelfth studio album by Killing Joke, released on July 28, 2003 by "Zuma Recordings" and later by Columbia. Recording for the album in 2002 marked the end of a six year hiatus that began in 1996 and it was Killing Joke's first studio album in seven years. Produced by Andy Gill of post-punk band Gang Of Four, the album featured long-time KILLING JOKE fan Dave Grohl (of Nirvana) on drums and on vocals, the singer of anarcho-punk band Amebix, Rob Miller . This is also KILLING JOKE's second self-titled album, as an effect of the hiatus. For many people this one could be the best album after its debut from 1980, and in fact both keep quite similarities.

The album consists of 12 cover songs, which the band chose themselves, and was recorded at Pat Collier's Perry Vale Studios in London last year, where the last few Subs A-Z albums were recorded. The idea and concept is not original (many bands before did the same "covers album"), but the true is UK Subs have choosen good songs and covering them on the best way. The bands covered are classics of garage rock or simply rock'n'roll such as: The Stooges, MC5, The Yardbirds, Ray Charles, The Diodes, The Saints, Bob Seger, Queens Of The Stone Age, David Bowie, etc. Good result.

A true hidden gemm could be this "normal service resumed", which was underrated, forgot and completly unnoticied in 1994. But it become in another good UK Subs album to add to their huge discography and this time it seems was the turn to getting closer a little bit to hard rock, especially in the rhythmic guitars and global sound production. The release was made in two formats, this one is the original studio album, but label "Fallout Records" made also another issue with a bonus CD, which contains a performance "Live in Croatia" recorded in '93 with twenty six songs. For the 1988 album "killing time", UK SUBS frontman Charlie Harper brought back the original lineup of guitarist Nicky Garratt and bassist Alvin Gibbs after a five-year absence, an hiatus with no activity and apparent disparition. Garratt and Gibbs were present during the most successful albums, so it seemed only natural that a reunion album would serve to rekindle the magic of that period. Fortunately, the reunion turned better but not harder or strictly to original classic punk rock, but to new musical styles more alternative rock oriented, even perhaps some "new wave" songs. All these years I know UK SUBS I have not ever seen nor listened to this "killing time", which is sure the most forgotten and unknown UK SUBS album. The band especially hits a lot with "Nico," an ill-conceived tribute to the Velvet Underground chanteuse that is very well done. "killing time" is next to here below "flood of flies" the most different and also original UK SUBS albums, which perhaps, are not expected for those who love the classic 1977 punk rock but which are more than satisfactory for those who, simply, like to listen to music... and enjoy it. In add, to mention the band recorded again with the political punk rock label "Red New Archives" from San Francisco.

No no, I am not wrong at all... ha ha! this is UK SUBS british punk rock band since 1977 yes. And the true is the band has recorded until 2015 thirthy seven full lenght official albums, all of them more or less into the simple description of "punk rock". With an only one exception in 1983 with the album "Flood of flies" and months later the EP "Magic". Different of the rest, this UK SUBS album has more to do with Joy Division, Siouxsie & The Banshees or PiL than the typical punk rock. So, here we can to listen to some kind of industrial and sometimes electronic drums and percusions, reverb effects, echoes and some kind of dark, sinister of misteryous ambient. Sincerely I never had listened to this album until now, but the true is this is not a bad disk at all. If you like post-punk, deathrock or cold wave, it's recommended to listen to mininum a few times this work.

This is the most succesful UK Subs album and probably one of the best but the best works of the band. If its debut "Another kind of blues" (1979) was a good punk rock album, this fourth "Endangered species" is clearly excellent. The band took few new wave influences, with some kind of electronic drums, occasionally keyboards and certain atmospheres closer to post-punk. Here we can to find songs became in a total classics such as: "Down of the farm", "Police state", "New barbarians" or "Endangered species" to mention just a few. High recommended

UK Subs were another group that emerged from the scene at The Roxy in London in 1977. Founder and Lead Vocalist Charlie Harper was playing in R&B and pub rock groups before being influenced by bands like The Damned to turn to punk.

The band was based around Harper's growling Cockney vocals with Nicky Garratt on Guitar, Paul Slack on Bass and a variety of drummers. Although adopting punk stylings, the bands work was still heavily influenced by R&B, albeit played fast. Whilst never having a big hit, several singles made the lower reaches of the Top 30 in the late 70s, including "Stranglehold", "Tomorrow's Girls", a cover of The Zombies classic "She's Not There" and "Warhead". The first two studio LPs "Another Kind of Blues" and "Brand New Age" also made the lower reaches of the album charts. In 1983 Nicky Garratt left the band along with bass player Alvin Gibbs and then drummer Kim Wylie leaving Charlie Harper to recruit a whole new band. Garratt would come back in and out of the line-up over the following 40 years whilst Charlie carried on touring and recording with an almost ever changing line-up.
