Nuclear Assault were among thrash metal's most socially aware groups, making room for serious subject matter (and occasional goofs) in their careening speed metal riffing. They also remained closer to the world of hardcore than most of their peers, and at their late-'80s peak released some of the most uncompromising (albeit, interesting) thrash metal offerings of the time. Sadly, because they lacked any truly commercial material, Nuclear Assault would never reach the mainstream acceptance of a Metallica, Megadeth, or even Anthrax (of the Joey Belladonna yore. After performing on Anthrax' 1984 debut Fistful of Metal, bass player Danny Lilker decided to jump ship and search for a more aggressive outlet (if you can imagine that) for his music. Subsequent to a brief reunion of sorts with Anthrax pals Scott Ian and Charlie Benante, and ex-Psychos singer Billy Milano for the hugely influential S.O.D. opus Speak English or Die, Lilker formed Nuclear Assault with vocalist and guitarist John Connely (also briefly a member of Anthrax in its formative years) in 1985. Guitarist Mike Bogush and drummer Scott Duboys (who would later join Warrior Soul) only lasted a few months before being replaced by guitarist Anthony Bramante and ex-T.T. Quick powerhouse drummer Glenn Evans. One of the Big Apple's few challengers (along with Anthrax and Overkill) to the Bay Area dominance of all things thrash metal, Nuclear Assault became immediate contenders due to the cumulative sum of its parts -- not to mention, their extreme nature and their ability to back it up with solid musicianship. Produced by metal stalwart Alex Perialas, their first album, 1986's Game Over, was regarded as a breath of fresh air with its potent speed metal tinged with hardcore overtones. In the process, fans and critics alike instantly accepted it and the band was quickly off to the races.

The following year's The Plague E.P. was an even more intense aural experience, but also managed to introduce Nuclear Assault's dark sense of humor with an ode to Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil (fresh off his vehicular manslaughter rap) on "Butt Fuck" (later retitled "You Figure It Out"). With constant touring making up for their obvious commercial limitations, the band continued to hone their craft in the studio, beginning with 1988's greatly improved Survive and culminating in 1989's outstanding Handle With Care. The latter proved that the group could refine their political speed metal and songwriting without compromising their anti-establishment stance, and was supported by successful Euro tours with thrash titans Exodus, and later U.S. jaunts with Testament and Savatage. 1990s Live at Hammersmith Odeon video celebrated this great phase, and the band came off the road having won a healthy dose of new believers.

But just as they were begin to gather serious momentum, Nuclear Assault seemed to lose interest in the mission at hand. They faltered with 1991's disappointing Out of Order, which lacked the continuity of previous efforts and signaled the beginning of the end for the quartet. Lilker would soon quit to pursue his extreme death metal side project Brutal Truth. Due to inner-band squabbling of Connely and Bramante, the latter would eventually fall out and jump ship as well. A revamped lineup featuring Connely and Evans (rounded out by new guitarist Dave DiPietro and bassist Scott Metaxas) did make it back for one more round, releasing the somewhat more coherent Something Wicked in 1993. Consequently, Wicked's less radical power metal sound did little to rekindle the band's once high-standing presence on the scene and, in fact, ended up alienating most of their remaining hardcore fan base. Nuclear Assault's accelerated demise proved inevitable soon thereafter. Connely and Evans would both go on to form new projects in Nuclear Theory and the guilty pleasure C.I.A., respectively. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia & John Franck.

EL KASO URKIJO published in 2009 their CD back entitled "La bañera fué su nicho". His music moves certainly in search of the essence that gave name to this style of music, pure, simple, direct and radical grindcore unceremoniously or foreign ornaments have been a reference for many groups both inside and outside of Spain, with a sound own very particular, quite noisy, not specially fast and sometime with little touches of hardcore, electronic or sludge metal.

Unfortunately this is the only one EL KASO URKIJO album which can it described a "mince-core" in the pure sense, because all lyrics and titles are related to social issues, animal liberation, anti-war... and politics in general. The original release was made only on cassette format and I can to assure the quality sound was excellent. In opposite, this download link here below has the exact number of tracks, order and music, but the quality sound I am affraid is not so good than the original. The "intro" of the tape is brilliant, a kind of description of the new world order (then, in 1994), spoken words recorded by Darkness, the female guitarist. Late 2000s there was a re-make of this recording with identical format (cassette), artwork, cover, etc. which everybody can to buy for 5€  HERE .

Woundvac is a 4 piece grindcore band formed in 2014 from Phoenix, Arizona, and since nowadays they have recorded three EP's, all of them compiled here under title of "sentient cancer". In fact the band play more than simply grindcore and they also add other elements and influences closer to thrash-metal and beatdown hardcore. Imgaine old-school grindcore bands crossed with slow hardcore bands as: Neurosis, Earth Crisis or Refused, and slowest Nuclear Assault parts. Hard to believe but their technical level is surprisingly high, as well as their brilliant quality sound and original lyrics. At the moment they have just recorded a fistful of good tracks, no more than twenty minutes, but it seem wwe are probably in front of one of the new and young grindcore blood. Highly recommended for lovers of the genre.

Sacred Reich are a well known name back in the day and quite popular. They didn’t play Dynamo two years in a row for nothing! Trust me, I was there, and they ruled. They ruled big time. Such a great liveband. More than how they are now sometimes remembered or looked down upon by people who weren’t there. A bit of a shame really…. "cause in 1990 Sacred Reich were in the subtop and because of their great live perfomance and earlier releases, every selfrespecting thrash metal head was waiting anxiously for ‘The American Way’. Whereas ‘Ignorance’ was a good yet two-dimensional piece of unoriginal political left wing thrash metal, ‘The American Way’ managed to produce mosty midtempo thrash without losing power and evolving into their own sound. Agreed, the riffs are still mostly simple but really standing out, as always, are the more than excellent drums of Greg Hall (No wonder Slayer attempted to get this man!) and the charisma and character of Phil Rind’s vocals and lyrics. ‘Who’s To Blame’ and ‘Crimes Against Huminity’ are perfect examples of top of the bill 1990 metal lyrics. Also very catchy! And being catchy is not a bad thing here. So what if the average pace was lower. It’s a shame Sacred Reich practically killed themselves later on with a lot of those weird groovemetal songs on ‘Independent’, not finding their form again until 1996’ “Heal” and silently leaving the scene. "The American Way" was, is and will remain: great (*review by Mortbert ).

Sacred Reich is a thrash metal band based in Phoenix, Arizona, that was formed in 1985. Singer/songwriter Phil Rind's interest was in socially conscious and political speed metal. After several albums on Metal Blade Records, they signed to Hollywood Records for a short stint, but later returned to Metal Blade to continue their musical career. The band split in 2000. Former drummer Dave McClain went on to join Machine Head in 1995. Lead guitarist Wiley Arnett went on to form The Human Condition with St. Madness vocalist Prophet in July 2000. In November 2006, the band announced they would play several shows in the summer of 2007 in Europe, including Wacken Open Air. However, according to an interview with bassist/vocalist Phil Rind, there are no plans to record a new Sacred Reich album. The band also contributed the Black Sabbath cover "Sweet Leaf" to the Hempilation: Freedom Is NORML compilation album to benefit NORML, and the Subhumans cover "The Big Picture" appears as the B-side of the "Open Book" promotional single. A three disk boxed set with remastered versions of Ignorance and Surf Nicaragua with additional bonus material, including the "Draining You of Life" demo tape and a live DVD, was originally slated for release in September 2005, but was released in Europe only in the summer of 2007 by Metal Blade Records. In the spring of 2017, the band announced their first North American tour in 21 years.
