Burning Image are an American post-punk/deathrock band formed in Bakersfield, California in 1982. The band was a part of the original California death rock scene of the early 80's. Their release of the 7” single with the songs “The Final Conflict” and “Burning Image, Burning” in the summer of 1984 was a major turning point for the band and gained them quite a following in the post punk/deathrock scene. The albums 1983-1987 in 2004 and Fantasma in 2009 were both released on Alternative Tentacles, the record label of former Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra. The album Oleander was released in 2011. The band are on the 1985 Mystic records compilation Let's Die and on the 2006 Strobelight records compilation Kaliffornian Deathrock. Burning Image has played shows with: Dead Kennedys, 45 Grave , Specimen, Fangs On Fur, Butthole Surfers, Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine, MIA, Christian Death 1334, Robert Anton Wilson and Dr. Timothy Leary, to name a few. Burning Image played the 1st Wake The Dead festival in Los Angeles with Cinema Strange, Ausgang, Scarlet's Remains and Tragic Black. Burning Image played the Alternative Tentacles 30 year festival at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco in 2009 and also headlined the first night of the 2009 Nekro festival in Oakland California which also featured Kommunity FK and Gitane Demone on the second night of the festival. Burning Image is featured in the the 2009 book Music To Die For by Mick Mercer. Burning Image has a new album, The Grand Guignol, ready for release for 2014 and celebrates 31 years as a band.
