Experimental noise tabletop guitarist KEVIN DRUMM played in a handful of rock, punk and metal bands before relocating to Chicago in 1991. He soon began experiments with prepared guitar, bass, applying objects including magnets, contact mics, binder clips, chains, a violin bow, even toenail clippers to distort the instrument's sound. In time KEVIN DRUMM befriended a number of members of Chicago's growing free improvisation community. His chameleon-like presence has been documented on a number of projects, each revealing new facets of his wide-ranging and unique talents on both guitar and electronics. He's recorded and performed with Phill Niblock, Tony Conrad, Jim O'Rourke, MIMEO, Mats Gustafsson, John Butcher, Thomas Ankersmit, Taku Sugimoto and many others. KEVIN DRUMM seamlessly melds the worlds of rock, acoustic and electronic sound, occasionally teetering on the edge of silence, yet always remaining impeccably musical.

"Sheer hellish miasma"

Label:  Mego
Format:  CD
Tracks:  5
Time:  55 min.
Genre:  electronic
Style:        Noise

KEVIN DRUMM‘s outstanding "Imperial Distortion" is undoubtedly one of the finest experimental tomes to emerge over the last decade. It reframed the then noise-mired Hospital Productions label and was a startling about-turn for Drumm too, who up until this point was known pretty much exclusively for making eardrum-ripping noise in the vein of his pioneering Mego stand-out "Sheer Hellish Miasma". Perhaps this is one of the most well received of Kevin Drumm by the public of Noise fan drives itself. One of his works, so, farther from or Ambient Drone and Musique concrète. It was merely cloudy by the end, and my palpitating heart cooled out a bit, although I could still feel the blood jetting through my tweaked extremities. I hadn't been this jacked since a menthol speedball hit the streets in '99. Ever since track three of Pita's Get Out, I've been waiting for that feeling again, that of a truly brute bruit from the Mego dealers. This, gents and junkies, is it.
