Even in the early days, CHELSEA didn't pursue the buzzsaw punk stereotype, instead favoring a less-fevered, sometimes lumbering intensity, redolent of an ignorant, lower-class background. CHELSEA does offer plenty of thrills, however. The band was since the first moment influenced by soft pop melodies, clear voices and some kind of attitude closer to The Clash, The Jam or Stiff Little Fingers, than other punk bands more anarchist or nihilist oriented. This "saturday night" album probably is the most clear sample of its atraction for the classic, mid-tempo and elegant british pop music of the 60's decade, some ones even describe this album as a mix of punk and "britpop" long play... everybody can to listen to it and to judge yourself.

Although Chelsea is perhaps better known as the band whose original lineup would become Generation X, the various subsequent incarnations of the group assembled by Gene October produced some really solid music in their own Billy Idol-less right. Last years several reissues, the band's long out-of-print second album, 1980 "No escape", is a poignant reminder of that fact. From the apocalyptic title track, through the track "right to work" to the uncharacteristically upbeat "Urban kids" capping off the disk, "No escape" is one of those records that really deserves more attention from punks looking to preserve the gems of genre's first wave. Strongly political in its thematic scope and sonically intense, "No escape"is also one of the more consistently melodic records to emerge out of the Spirit of '77 scene. Actually is not considered as an official album but an unofficial compilation, which also exist under the title of "Alternative hits". But is usually considered as their second album because is the only one collection with the songs writen between their debut album (1979) and its third one (1982). Highly recommended for those lovers of old-fashioned punk rock!

This is a compilation or collection of demos, outakes and rarities recorded by Chelsea before their debut album in 1979. So you can find here songs from 1976, 1977 or 1978 with a sound bit raw with a poor production (as a Demo itself), but at the same time nice and interesting. Just punk rock
