This is is a huge, colossal and almost pharaonic proportions recording, with no less than two hours of minimal ambient and experimental noise. GOH LEE KWANG is an artist few know in Europe and probably Russia, but he started in noise and experimental music in 2000... fifteen years making all kind of music, from field recording to harsh noise to ambient, etc. In this occasion he has made a big hommage to japanese master MERZBOW. It’s so wonderfully fitting that GOH LEE KWANG has offered his talents on "Tribute to Merzbow". Not only does his name come to mind shortly after MERZBOW and other masters of noise, when thinking of experimental, but he’s always been drawn to the style at its most forward-thinking. In spite of his familial associations with the illustrious japaneses, "Tribute to..." isn’t a name I’d have thought I’d be speaking of in a noise context; even though past albums like his 2014 masterwork "Beautiful" were pretty open about their noise and experimental influences, the concept of an electronic artist putting such an emphasis on a genre that is entirely dependent on organic performance and feeling seems outlandish, at least at first. Then again, we’re now living in 2015, the great time of the future, and with a few years left in us before we’re swept away by the ravages of nuclear hellfire, these kinds of surface-level paradoxes can and should be exploited in art.

"Rotten Memories Vol.2"
Year:  2014
Country:  Malaysia
City:  Kuala Lumpur
Label:  Herbal International
Format: digital
Tracks:  2
Time:  30 min.
Genre:  electronic
Style:        Experimental

"Rotten Memories Vol.2" is music from a different level, dimension, realm, you name it. For the past 10 years, Goh Lee Kwang has maintained a sustainable level of high-quality experimental noise releases that were fitting of the drone, ambient and field recordings genre tags. However, he approaches music not just as an always-challenging composer and performer, but as an ever-experimenting sound artist as well. In his works you will hear acoustic, raw and organic sounds as they interact with all kinds of audio machinery, eventually building a very intimate yet otherworldly aural landscape which is so carefully considered and constructed that you feel as if your ears have additional senses attributed to them. I saw some pics of Goh Lee Kwang where to appeared children, friends or parents to help him to record vocals, making strange sounds with strange instruments or even simple objects. He has recorded almost 130 albums and several ep's since 2001, and most of them a mix with field recordings, noise, ambient, drone, space, etc. His music doesn´t tell a history at all, not, is simply a succesion of landscapes and fine noise layers, everyone can to understand what he wants. I like very much this "Rotten Memories Vol.2" but frankly my favourite Goh Lee Kwang album is "Beautiful".

"Metro pop"
Year:  2013
Country:  Malaysia
City:  Kuala Lumpur
Label:  Herbal International
Format:  digital
Tracks:  6
Time:  42 min.
Genre:  electronic
Style:        Experimental

Despite the GOH LEE KWANG discography is huge and enormous, we can to try few favourites recordings, and in my personal case, this one entitled "Metro pop" could be with no problem one of them. Obviously nothing to do with pop music, 60s decade or psychedelia, but nor with that kind of electronic noise close to "gothic music" or "dark music". So we are into the field of experimental music but not into the dark music nor extreme harsh noise music. Maybe the best adjectives to describe this album could be: experimental, minimal noise, glitch or even cosmic / space landscapes. The whole album can to remind to hi-sci films, technological progress, planets, galaxies or cosmos, but always with some kind of optimistic sense. This could be nowadays my favourite KWANG album.
